A sample headline demonstrating the Impact Watch story experience

A short deck explaining what the sample article is about. It sets out the subject in two lines, so a reader can decide quickly whether to keep going.

Update on

This is placeholder text showing where a published update to a story would appear. It explains what has changed since the story was first published.

This is placeholder body text for the sample story. It shows how paragraphs read at the approved article width: the length of each line, the space between paragraphs and the size of the type. None of it describes a real event, person, place or organisation.

Long-form reading depends on small decisions. A comfortable line length keeps the eye moving without strain, generous line spacing stops lines running together, and strong contrast makes the text easy to follow on a phone in bright light as well as on a desktop screen.

Real stories will replace this copy. Each paragraph here is written to be roughly the length of a paragraph in a news feature, so the layout can be judged honestly: too short and the page looks sparse, too long and it turns into a wall of text.

A sample subheading marks a change of topic

Subheadings break a long article into parts a reader can scan. They use the same serif as the headline, with more space above than below, so each one stays attached to the text it introduces.

Body text stays in the sans-serif used across the platform, while headlines, quotations and subheadings use the editorial serif. That contrast helps readers tell the structure of a story from the story itself.

Photographs sit inside the flow of the text as figures, each with a caption and a credit line. When real images arrive, they replace the placeholder above without any change to the surrounding article.

“A pull quote lifts one line out of the story, to give the reader a way in and a place to pause.”

Sample Source, sample role

After a pull quote the text resumes at the normal reading width. The quotation is set in the serif face and marked up as a quotation with an attribution, so assistive technology can tell it apart from the body text.

Key facts

  • This is a sample fact set in a plain list, with a rule between items.
  • Fact boxes summarise the essentials of a story for readers in a hurry.
  • They are editorial furniture, not dashboard cards: rules and type, no decoration.

A second sample subheading

This paragraph follows the second subheading. Between the first and second subheadings the article has already shown a figure, a pull quote and a fact box; the rest of this page shows the remaining blocks.

Stories on Impact Watch can be more than text. A single piece may bring together photographs, audio, video, documents and data, and each of those has its own reusable block so it looks consistent from one story to the next.

A sample third-level heading

A third-level heading marks a smaller step inside a section. It is used sparingly, because a short article rarely needs more than one level of subheading.

The end of the article is followed by topics, sharing controls and a note about the author, and then by related stories and the newsletter sign-up. This closing paragraph is only here to complete the sample text.

Correction on

This is placeholder text showing where a correction would appear. It states plainly what was wrong and what the correct information is.
